Your Institute and Berg Pharma, LLC are currently conducting a research study called DISCOVERY-PD to identify biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease. DISCOVERY-PD will utilize clinical data and samples obtained by the Parkinson's Institute, along with Berg's Interrogative Biology™ platform, to look for disease biomarkers. Currently, there are no proven biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease available to clinicians and researchers.
What are biomarkers and why are they important? Biomarkers are indicators that may help to confirm a diagnosis and measure progression of a condition or the effect of therapy. Biomarkers may be helpful in diagnosing Parkinson’s disease, identifying who may develop Parkinson’s, or may help in creating future treatments for Parkinson’s.
Both people with and without Parkinson’s disease are needed for this study. Participation requires only 1 visit to our Clinical Center. For more information, please contact the Parkinson’s Institute Clinical Trials team at (408) 542-5608 or by email at Trials@ParkinsonsInstitute.org. Additional information on our study can also be found here.
