Privacy Policy

Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center has the utmost respect for the confidentiality of our patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders. The purpose of this privacy policy is to assure patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders that their information will not be shared with any third-party entities without their express knowledge and consent. This Privacy Policy applies to all information received by the institute, including online and offline, as well as any electronic, written or oral communication.

Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center is providing this Privacy Policy to inform you of how we use and protect information about our patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders. We also provide everyone with the opportunity to remove their name from our mailing list, if they choose to do so. As a patient-care clinic, Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center is required to follow all HIPAA regulations and privacy laws.

We collect, use, and disclose personal information concerning our patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders for the following reasons:

•  to establish a relationship and to communicate with donors;
•  to understand who our patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders are and how we may improve
    our services to meet their preferences and expectations;
•  to enroll participants in and maintain clinical studies and trials
•  to process a donation, for example, to process a credit card transaction;
•  to issue and deliver a donation tax receipt;
•  to recognize contributions;
•  to respond to requests for information;
•  to meet requirements imposed by law.

Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center uses your information to complete a transaction, communicate back to you, and update you on institute activities. Credit card numbers are used only for donation or payment processing. Credit card information is then securely disposed of and is not retained for any purpose. When you send a donation in honor or in memory of someone and request that an acknowledgement be sent to another individual or a family, we will use the name and address of that individual or family for acknowledgement purposes only. 

If you inquire about and enroll in a research study, we may collect information from you related to the study or studies, which may include health information. All research participant data is maintained in a secure, restricted environment and is accessed only for research purposes by only approved staff members for the purposes of the study. Any sharing of information with third-party entities as they relate to specific studies will be disclosed ahead of time and will require your consent before any information is shared. Parkinson’s Institute is very serious about following all HIPAA regulations and laws regarding the protection of patient information, as our patients are very important to us.

If we plan to use personal information we have collected for a purpose not previously identified, we will identify and document this purpose before such use. Information will only be collected, used, or disclosed with the knowledge and consent of the individual, or as required by law. We will make a reasonable effort to specify the identified purposes, orally or in writing, to the individual from whom the personal information is collected either at the time of collection or after collection but before use. We will state the identified purposes so that an individual can reasonably understand how the information will be used or disclosed.

Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center will not sell, rent, or lease your personal information to other organizations. We assure you that the identity of all our donors will be kept confidential. Use of donor information will be limited to the internal purposes of Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center. We respect the wishes of our patients, donors, volunteers, employees, and other stakeholders who are no longer interested in receiving communications from us. Please contact us directly by phone, email, or regular mail at any time you wish to be removed from the mailing list or if you would like to correct or change the personal information you have previously provided. All e-mail communications include a link where you can have your address removed from our contact list. 

Our site contains links to other websites, and their privacy policies may differ from those of the Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center, and we are not responsible for governing their privacy practices. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on all sites you choose to visit. 

If you elect to connect your social media account to your Site account, certain Personal Information from your social media account may be shared with us, which may include personal information that is part of your profile or your friends’ profiles. In addition, if you enter our website using a link from your social media account, use a “Like” button, or use other social media features while visiting our website, those social media companies may collect information about you. Your interactions with social media companies and the use of their features are governed by the privacy policies of those entities and the Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center is not responsible for them.
